The National Marine Sanctuary Foundation hosted a cocktail reception March 20th at the National Aquarium in Washington, D.C. to mark the unveiling of newly renovated exhibits throughout the Aquarium, including many featuring the National Marine Sanctuary System. The guests included the NMSF Board of Trustees, the managers of the National Marine Sanctuaries, representatives from NOAA, and congressional and corporate constituents.

The National Marine Sanctuary Foundation is also proud to have sponsored this new permanent exhibit for the National Aquarium, a nonprofit institution and the oldest continuously operating aquarium in the country. It includes more than 300 images of incredible beauty and detail provided by undersea photographers from all over the world. More than a dozen panels represent our national marine sanctuaries and will foster the understanding and public stewardship that is so essential to their preservation.
One of the largest panels is this photo essay on the National Marine Sanctuaries
 |
The photo panels were designed by Lyons/Zaremba - a Boston-based firm renowned for its creativity in Aquariums across the nation.
The exhibit was constructed by Joan Carol Design Group in Clinton, Maryland - the same firm that created the Reef Exhibit in the National Aquarium.

The species identification panels above each tank have also been replaced and many of the images selected were provided by the National Marine Sanctuaries or photographers associated with them, with the assistance of several helpful sanctuary staff members. These partnerships, along with the generosity of nearly 50 freelance photographers, made this renovation possible. We owe a special thanks to Emma Hickerson of the Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary for working so closely with us on this project.
