Ocean Guardian Pledge

Hawai`i Ocean Guardian Kid’s Club and Contest Guidelines:

• The kid’s club and contest is free and open to all K-8 students in the United States.
• All entries must be original work done by the student who registered.
• All entrants will receive an Ocean Guardian Kid’s Club membership kit (while supplies last) and be entered into the contest to win cool prizes.
• The deadline for contest entries is postmarked by October 24, 2008.

GUIDELINES FOR POETRY OR SHORT STORY ENTRIES

Written poetry and short stories must be typed.  Poems should not exceed 75 words and short stories should have a minimum of 100 words and maximum of 500 words.  Both require the use of 12-point font, double spaces with one-inch margins in Times New Roman font.  Your poem or short story entry must be accompanied by the official entry form. 

GUIDELINES FOR ARTWORK ENTRIES

Artwork should not exceed 8.5” by 11” in size (standard letter size).  Acceptable media are: paint, pencil, markers, ink, crayon, chalk, acrylic or pastel (fixed), photography, cloth, and collage.  All submissions must be done on paper that will allow for duplication, display or framing (no notebook or typing paper).  Do not mat, mount, laminate, frame or fold artwork.  Your artwork entry must be accompanied by the official entry form. 

The Fine Print

• Children’s names and addresses will not be shared or further distributed.  This information will only used for Hawai`i Ocean Guardian Kid’s Club and Contest announcements and activities.
• Photography submissions that include identifiable individuals must also include a signed model waiver form.  See below to download the appropriate form.
• Through submission of original work, students and their legal guardians grant NOAA Office of National Marine Sanctuaries and Outrigger Hotels non-exclusive reproduction and publication rights to the work(s) submitted.
• The NOAA Office of National Marine Sanctuaries reserves the right to change the terms and conditions of the Hawai`i Ocean Guardian Kid’s Club and Contest at any time.
